Q10007 Which 64-bit Windows systems are compatible?

Tags: Help, DAP, DAPL, installation, compatibility, Windows

Applies to: All DAP models, with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10

I need to select a 64-bit Windows system for a new project, maybe Windows 10. What 64-bit Windows versions does the DAP software work with?

The DAPtools 5.xx and 6.xx software versions have been tested to work with Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10. However, there have been some security changes that cause some complications.

DAPtools 6.40 is your best choice for Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10.

  • Use DAPtools 6.20 or later for Windows 7 and Windows 8.
  • Use DAPtools 6.20 for 64-bit Windows Vista.
  • Use DAPtools 6.10 or 6.20 for 32-bit Windows Vista.

Windows Vista will not be supported in versions of the DAPtools Software beyond version 6.20. Microsoft will not provide Vista upgrades that allow Vista systems to recognize the security certificiates Microsoft requires for all other Windows systems after Vista. The 32-bit version of Vista might continue to work, because it does not use 256 bit security certificates.

There are some 64-bit versions of Windows XP and Embedded Windows that are not supported. You can try the DAPtools 6.10 or 6.20 versions. These might work or might not... with no guarantees, and these have not been tested.
