Q10119 64-bit Matlab can't find DAP functions

Tags: Help, Matlab, 64-bit, upgrades

Applies to: DAPtools Professional Software through version 6.1, all 64-bit Windows systems, all 64-bit Matlab software

When I try to execute DAPtools for Matlab Dap functions on my new 64-bit Windows system with 64-bit Matlab 2012, none of the Dap functions will work.

That's right. No pre-compiled .mexw32 files have ever worked under any 64-bit version of Matlab. (This is just getting noticed more often, now that 64-bit Windows systems are becoming more common.) The compiled .mexw32 files contain binary executable code, and the binary executable code is different for 32-bit and 64-bit hardware architectures. Mathworks provides no other way to call the DAPIO programming interface except through compiled code. Mathworks has been very clear that there is not and will not be any emulator software for enabling 64-bit versions of Matlab to run .mexw32 files.

Eventually, there will be a 64-bit version of DAPtools for Matlab, and that will provide .mexw64 files to support the 64-bit versions of Matlab. But for now, you will need to install a 32-bit version of Matlab in order to use DAPtools functions. This works fine, both on 32-bit and 64-bit systems, except for certain limitations on multi-gigabyte data elements. Keep checking on this site for an updated DAPtools Software release with updated Matlab support.
