Q10116 Communications blocked by firewall

Tags: Help, Networking, DAPcell, communication pipes, firewall, multi-host applications

Applies to: DAPtools Professional, Windows 7, other Windows

I installed DAPtools Professional on my remote system, and DAPtools Basic on my central system. My central system can see the remote DAP and establish communication channel connections only if I disable my firewall. What can I do to correct this?

If you are using the Windows Firewall, you should be able to do the following:

  1. go to the Windows Control Panel
  2. select "Windows Firewall"
  3. pick the menu item "Allow program or features"
  4. look for the DAPcell Server in the list of available services
  5. click the checkbox at the left to select it
  6. click OK to finish

If the DAPcell Service is not listed there, or if you are using an older version of Windows with a third-party firewall, look for options to enable the application acoms.exe to access the network. It is located in one of the Windows Systems folders.

If this doesn't work, you might need to do a little research to see whether you can enable the appropriate port for RPC traffic on your network. See the reference [1] for more information about RPC port addresses and security.
