DAPstudio runs under Windows 7

Bellevue, WA, April 8, 2010 -- Data acquisition and control systems from Microstar Laboratories, Inc. can now run in 64-bit Windows systems, including Windows 7, thanks to the latest version 5.0 release of the DAPtools software packages. All Data Acquisition Processor (DAP) boards and xDAP systems use DAPtools. There are three editions of the DAPtools 5.0 packages – Basic, Standard, and Professional – each of them ready for use with DAP boards and xDAP systems immediately upon installation. The DAPtools 5.0 Basic edition is downloadable from the company Web site.

Onboard Intelligence

Every DAP board and xDAP unit includes onboard intelligence: a processor running a real-time operating system. These pieces communicate among themselves, working concurrently with the Windows processing. They can do this within one PC, or across a network. Windows applications configure the operations on each DAP board, where the real-time DAPL operating system manages the hardware control and real-time activity. All three editions of the DAPtools 5.0 software let your Windows applications configure and operate all models of DAP boards in a consistent way.

Windows Applications

Every edition of DAPtools software includes an evaluation copy of DAPstudio Software – data acquisition development software from Microstar Laboratories. DAPstudio lets you configure and run any number of DAP boards in a system from any PC on a network. In practice, a wide range of applications can run under DAPstudio and need no additional software. Even those that do end up using other software can benefit from the use of DAPstudio in the development phase – for proof of concept.

DAPstudio uses DAPcell software, also part of every DAPtools edition. DAPcell also comes in three different editions, with capabilities ranging from basic device access in the DAPtools Basic package to advanced client/server network access in the DAPtools Professional package. DAPcell now runs under Windows 7, so you can take advantage of new features immediately. DAPstudio – like any other Windows application that uses DAPcell – runs unchanged under Windows 7.

Use 64-Bit Windows Today

Move your existing applications to 64-bit Windows now. The DAPcell support for 64-bit Windows hides all of the operating system level changes needed for 64-bit operation. Your applications will run without modification.

DAP systems currently only support 32-bit Data Acquisition Processor applications, but that does not limit their operation in 64-bit Windows systems. When you are ready to write 64-bit applications, the next major release of DAPcell will provide that support.

Conclusion and Next Step

Install the Windows versions you want – 32-bit or 64-bit – a DAP or xDAP system just works, using the version 5.0 release of DAPtools software. The updated DAPtools 5.0 package in three editions, including new editions of DAPcell software for device access and networking, is available now. DAPtools Basic 5.0 is available for download from the company Web site, at no charge. DAPcell Network software is available in the DAPtools Standard 5.0 or DAPtools Professional 5.0 packages.
